Barnes & Alon are a new musical theatre collaborative team. The Nightingale and the Rose is their first musical. It is a short musical based on the fable by Oscar Wilde.
Aaron Alon is an award-winning, widely-performed young classical composer. He has also been involved in musical theatre since the age of 9, as a pianist, actor, singer, and composer. He holds a BA in music from the University of Chicago and an MM in composition from the Cleveland Institute of Music, and is currently completing a doctorate in composition at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music. He has also studied jazz arranging with Paul Ferguson and composition for musical theatre in Stuart Ostrow's Musical Theatre Lab and in The Writers’ Workshop (formerly known as New Tuners) at Theatre Building Chicago.

Joe Barnes is a poet and playwright. His poetry has appeared in a number of literary journals and
TimeSlice, an anthology of Houston poets. Four of his plays have been produced locally; two have been featured at national festivals. He wrote the book and lyrics for
The Man that Corrupted Hadleyburg, a musical which premiered in 2006 as part of the University of Houston's Theatre Lab program. For many years a career diplomat with the U.S. State Department, Barnes now works as a research fellow at the Baker Institute for Public Policy at Rice University.
